Mrs. Clendening's FAQ's

Class Expectations

What are your class rules?

Be respectful, Be responsible, Be Ready to Learn!

How will I know if my child is not following the rules?

Everyday your child should come home with a slip reporting their behavior as it aligns with our class clip chart. I will call, email or send a note home to notify you if your child has a particularly rough day.  The note is just a brief note to let you know what happened and provide an opportunity for you and your child to discuss their day. I do ask that it is signed and returned to ensure you saw it. If I have a major concern, I will call you to discuss the matter.

Absences

What should I do if my child is absent?

Send an email or call the school letting us know your child is sick. If you do not do it the day of illness, send a note or call upon your childs return to school. Do not worry about getting work from me.  I will set anything aside that will need to be completed and give you and your child plenty of time to complete the assignment.

Homework

 Reading Log

Your child has a designated homework day.  On their given day they need to return their reading log that you have signed and the three books they have been reading.  I realize your children may read all of their books on the first night of homework.  If you read to them, they read other books in your home or spend time on Raz-Kids reading, that time may be counted on their weekly reading log.

 Sight Words

Practice sight words as much as you can at home.  I will not be giving spelling tests, but will periodically check in to see if children have been practicing their words.  Sight words do need to be recognized quickly by sight.  A child's ability to quickly recognize words by sight significantly helps them blossom as readers.

Math

Periodically math homework will come home in Cougar Carriers, this does not need to be returned, but is mostly to keep you informed regarding the skills being taught in class.  Additionally I encourage you to have your children acces Xtra Math online to practice their math fact skills. (If you have lost their login and password information, please contact me!)

Library Books

When are library books due?

Our check out day is Wednesday.  Books need to be returned on Tuesday.

Can parents check out library books?

Yes, parents are allowed to check out up to 10 books before or after school.

Snack

When is snack time?

Snack time will be offered each day around 1:45pm.

Will snack be supplied by Mrs. Clendening?

No, children are to bring a healthy snack from home.  If they do not bring a snack, one will not be supplied for them.

Birthdays

How do you celebrate birthdays in A-2?

Birthdays will be celebrated the last Friday of the month from 3:00-3:30 for all children who had a birthday during the month.  If you returned the pink note indicsating when you child's birthday is, my "Party Mom" will contact you during the month of your childs birthday to make arrangements for treats at the party.

Volunteers

Do you use volunteers in A-2?

Definitely!  This year we will be using volunteers like no other year.  If you are interested, please contact me.

Volunteers will need to have an approved background check on file with the school district and attend Clear Lake volunteer training.

I was not able to attend the scheduled volunteer traingings, can I still volunteer?

Yes, you can still volunteer! Please contact Debbie Davenport to arrange schedule a training.
